The Oral History Master of Arts Program at Columbia University

Oral History Master of Arts (OHMA) is an interdisciplinary Master of Arts degree program in the field of oral history, the first program of its kind.

OHMA trains students to conduct research through creating and analyzing interviews, and to develop fieldwork projects to address historical and contemporary issues that require interdisciplinary investigation. The field of oral history supports research on immigration, migration, ethnicity, gender, politics, government and human rights. Through the collection, archiving and analysis of individual, community and institutional histories, we preserve the critical first-person narratives that capture the spirit of our society for generations to come.
